SCULPTURE ORIGIN

Figures - individuality

Picture
My goal is to capture moments in our lives when our bodies express simple emotions of well being, introspection, or vitality.

Totems - strength of spirit

Picture
The totems are about human resilience and strength of spirit in a complex and precarious world.

The organic, primal forms of the building blocks symbolize the intricacies of our quotidian - those events that often we have difficulty to interpret and assimilate into the narrative of our life.

The head stands for the substance of the being. The head is peaceful and serene: It embodies the adaptability and hardiness of our being.

Heads - continuity

Picture
My impulse to create heads started a few years ago during a visit to Chaco Canyon in New Mexico. Chaco Canyon houses the ruins of the old Pueblo people who inhabited the land between 850 and 1150 AD.  Anthropomorphic rocks along the many trails seemed to stand sentinels.

The feeling of timelessness and the serenity of the vast area around Chaco Canyon influence the sense of inner strength and dignity the heads convey. This inspiration from the past is actualized in the contemporary need to distance ourselves from the complexity of modern life and the ability to find strength and harmony when we need it.
