Danielle Fafchamps

Biography

Picture
Danielle Fafchamps is a Belgian native who worked and traveled in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Impressions formed during her travels influence her work.

After years in the hustle and bustle of Silicon Valley, Fafchamps discovered other dimensions in the world: the peaceful meditative power of sculpting, the tactile earthiness of clay, the regenerative goundedness of timeless gestures, and the exhilirating freedom of pursuing one’s passion.

In her approach to sculpting, technique is a means to an end. The emotion or memory a sculpture awakens in the sculptor or the viewer is what counts.

Most of her sculptures are captured in a quiet moment of personal reflection, they are contemplative and peaceful, they exhibit strength and resilience in an increasingly complex and precarious world. They are not sleeping nor thought free, they project the calm confidence of someone who has experienced the good and the not so good, has come to term with it, and is very grounded.

At the core of her practice are the mark of the maker and serendipity. The mark of the maker - tool marks, and forms that convey emotions - gives her work its humanity and value.  For Fafchamps, serendipity is the essence of the artistic endeavor. She starts with an idea and integrates the unexpected into her work.

Clay sculptures are fired in an electric kiln at a vitrification temperature of about 2200 º F. or 1200 º C. and may be displayed outside in temperate climates.

Bronze casts are limited to 8 numbered editions.
